Meat Boxes

From our small holding in Devon we are able to provide a small and exclusive number of Lamb and Pork Meat boxes. Our first planned delivery date is Oct 2021.

Our ethos is built around ethical and wholesome food where our livestock is allowed a free-ranging and natural existence.

Lamb & Hogget

Our current flock are Texel Charollais Cross. They were born in early March 2021. They spend their days foraging around in our field amongst the buttercups and clover looking for the tasty grass. Because our grass is not especially rich they get a little breakfast of creep every morning, which they look forward to with much noise!

Pigs

Our current herd of pigs are Saddleback Landrace Cross and are free range in our woodland copse. They spend their days rooting around for grubs and bugs, scritching or relaxing in the shade of a tree.

Lamb Boxes

Because our lambs are allowed to grow slowly to maturity compared to an average 3-month-old supermarket lamb they will require longer and lower cooking times. Between 1 and 2 years of age they are known as hogget, and are a delicious cross between tender lamb and full-flavoured mutton.

How it works

  1. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified of when we have availability of boxes. There is no commitment at this stage.
  2. We will send out a mailing a month or two in advance asking people to express interest and getting an idea of what products and joints there is interest for.
  3. Dates are confirmed and orders placed. You would be expected to pay for your box at this time.
  4. Your order will be delivered by hand or by overnight courier in special frozen food packaging.

But what about fitting it in our Freezer?

Experience says that a half a pig will take up approximately 26l (litres) once prepared by our butcher. This means in a small under counter Freezer (50l 3/4 drawers) the meat will take up a couple of drawers. In a larger stand-up or chest freezer (150l+) you could find that the meat takes up a single drawer or less.

Lamb is a bit more compact with half taking up no more than one drawer in a stand up freezer.
