NOTES

When considering the minimum passage size the following areas are provided for reference:

  • Typical 25mm / 1 inch hole entrance has an area of 506.71mm2
  • Small Entrance on Thornes Floor is 115 x 7 = 805 mm2

The depth constraint of the portal on the inside of a hive is 8.5mm in order to fit between the side and frames. With externally placed we don’t have the same constraint and increase the depth to 12mm and allow more height in the passage to reduce any pollen displacement.
