Solid and well-made of an underrated native wood, exhibiting a particularly attractive grain pattern. Overall, this bowl is beautiful in its simplicity. Highly recommended.

This is a commissioned Potpourri bowl in Sapele with Turquoise Milliput Inlay. As shown in the photo below Milliput can be a messy material to work with!
Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum) comes from West Africa. The heartwood is a golden to dark reddish brown and it tends to darken with age.
Although Sapele does not appear in the CITES appendix it is on the IUCN Red List due to a 20% population reduction over the last three generations as a result of exploitation and deforestation. Therefore we are now restricting our use of this lovely wood to offcuts sourced from local timber merchants.
